At the Florida Heart Clinic, we perform a wide variety of cardiology services, including:
Patients admitted by non-cardiologists at times are in need of a cardiology consultant to provide advice and clinical recommendations during their hospital stay. Our physician is available to assist other doctors in managing patients’ heart related issues during and following hospitalizations. We currently offer these services for patients admitted to Aventura Hospital.
Surgical procedures can put the heart under stress, and, depending on the nature of the planned surgery, and on the patient, an evaluation by a cardiologist may be appropriate to evaluate the patient’s cardiac risk prior to the operation. Once the cardiac risk assessment has been completed, our cardiologist will connect with your surgeon, anesthesiologist, and primary care provider and discuss what steps may have to be taken in order to minimize your peri-operative risk (i.e. to ensure that the stress of the operation will not lead to a cardiac complication such as a heart attack). Such out-patient pre-operative risk assessment, if appropriate, can be done for patients scheduled for operations at any hospital. Sometimes, again depending on the patient and on the nature of the planned operation, our doctor will be able to issue a letter of ‘cardiac clearance’ without any testing whatsoever.
Anybody suffering from conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, recurrent heart rhythm problems, and many others, should be under the care of an experienced cardiologist to ensure that future problems are minimized as much as possible. Our physician will work with you and with your primary care provider (e.g. your general practitioner or Family Practice Doctor), streamlining your medical treatment, and ensuring that all ‘preventive maintenance’ for the heart is done in a timely fashion.
Foreign visitors will take their health issues with them as they visit our country. The Florida Heart Clinic welcomes patients of all backgrounds, but we have particular expertise in assisting patients from Russia, Ukraine, and other countries of the former Soviet Union. Within limitations that relate to legibility and software compatibility, we can evaluate paper copies or computerized versions of foreign medical records and certain imaging studies. If you are new to the American Medical System, need help, and do not speak English well, you can talk Russian with us.
Some cardiac problems, especially heart valve problems, require special precautions prior to invasive dental, gynecological, urological and other procedures. Such precautions may relate to the need to give antibiotics, the need to appropriately handle anticoagulants (blood thinners), and other issues. We will coordinate such problems with your dentist or other doctor wishing to do a procedure on you, to minimize the chance that your planned procedure will end up with a cardiac complication.
Elderly patients that wish to begin an exercise program, or younger patients that wish to engage in competitive sports may want to ensure that their heart is up to the challenge. At the Florida Heart Clinic, we can evaluate you and tell you what, if anything, is needed to ensure that your planned activities are safe for the heart.
Some professions (e.g. pilot) are governed by special laws and regulations, since a sudden heart issue would jeopardize many lives, not only the life of the person affected. The Florida Heart Clinic can provide a risk assessment and will work with the Authorities so that necessary heart health checks are done in a timely fashion.
Some patients are on blood thinners (e.g. Coumadin/Warfarin) that require constant adjustment. At the Florida Heart Clinic, we offer participation in a management program that handles this issue and helps patients keep their anticoagulation (blood thinning) in the right range.
